Scuba Dream

Untitled
Untitled. Colored marker on sketchbook paper. 06/14/2005

These hands are not my hands. They draw lines of seaweed or twine or wire. An underwater dream. A tin lunchbox, ham, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on wheat bread. A brandless automobile. Edible fish. Carnivorous fish.

Conversation Between a Forensic Scientist and a Priest

I just remembered this one from an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation:

Grissom: "We both have jobs that begin after the crime."

Priest: "After the sin."

Grissom: "Some people would call that a career in futility."

Priest: "Some call it a vocation."

Grissom: "A hundred years ago, we didn't have the technology for finger prints. Fifteen years ago we didn't have DNA. Hopefully one day we'll have fool-proof means by which to put the right man in jail in this case."

Priest: "Some day we won't need jails.—I celebrate mass every Thursday night, seven o' clock."

Grissom: "Thank you—but no."

Priest: "You don't believe?"

Grissom: "In religion. I believe in God, in science, in Sunday supper. I don't believe in rules that tell me how I should live."

Priest: "Even if they're handed down by God?"

Grissom: "How many crusades were fought in the name of God? How many people died because of someone's religion?"

Priest: " Fanaticism, not a religion."

Grissom: "Semantics. They're still dead. I'm sorry about Ben, father."

Priest: "You still suffer like a Catholic. A light bulb goes out, but people fix it and get a new one. A light bulb goes out for the Catholic, he stands in the dark and says, 'what did I do wrong?'"

Grissom: "That guilt's not in me anymore."

I think I should be going out more.

Got to visit my folks again after a month. It wasn't exactly an exciting weekend but it was a welcome change. I've been away from home for too long that think I have become allergic to my old room. I couldn't sleep as sound when I'm in my place but I really don't mind. This occassional variation in the routine prevents monotony from setting in.

The heat is killing me. I've probably perspired a bucket-full since Saturday. Went to visit my tita's whose place is a few hundred feet higher above sea level than where we're living. I would think that it'd be colder there but no... It was like a furnace in their house. The heat made me lethargic and I was practically sleeping in my sweat and the electric fans did not help at all. It was a relief when we had to leave for the mall, but it wasn't really much of a relief when we got there. Then I went to visit my grandmother. Not much different there as well. I just had dinner there then went off to my place. Soaked in the shower as soon as I got in and I just stayed there for like half-an-hour before toweling off. I thought I was ok for the night but it turns out that the long shower was just temporary relief. Even with the fan blowing at full blast, I was still sweating where I lay. Not a good night at all.

Man all battle stations...

Yellow Alert

Heard just now that the nation is in "Blue Alert." Wait, I think its just in Makati.

Apparently, the Philippine Military uses a three-tiered alert scheme. "White" being the lowest and "Red" the highest. Now what's my point? I'm not trying to make one. I mean politics should concern me but that shit isn't my top concern.

I did mention something about life-altering decisions and I'm thinking really hard and deep about making one. And its not about work. Maybe I should put myself on "Blue Alert" and man all battle stations...

On Webcams, Bouncing-baby-boys and The Borg

marianmys2pidsch
I was viewing this girl's webcam for an hour or so. She's in my friends list but I don't remember how she got there. I tried sending her a message a few times but she wasn't responding so I just gave up. It wsn't like I was secretly hoping for her to take her clothes off or something... Nevermind. :)

And so I come to an end of another so-so day. Generally uneventful except for a message I got from Joanne this morning about Kate being in labor (at the time of this writing, Kate's probably resting and nursing her bouncing baby boy). :) I'll probably join the gals when they come visit her sometime soon.

A dated photo of Kate and me in MMPI

As uneventful as it was, the thing me and KV had been toiling over for the past several months is now out. They delivered the copies to the office this morning. Haven't been hearing any complaints about it so far. Except for that one about a defective logo. One of the advertisers was complaining that their logo did not come out right in one of the pages. And would you like to know just how big their logo is on the said page? roughly 4mm²! It wasn't even the size of a 5-centavo coin! How tight-assed can one get?!

Sorry. I have to calm down. Now like I said in an earlier post, just when you think everything's A-OK, something would eventually come up. The Borg Queen would never, ever approve of such a thing. She would only demand "perfection." One could only wish for the "Collective" to come and assimilate us all. Only then I would get my Borg name and utter the words "I am [insert Borg name here] of the Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated." *Aside: Is there a Web site where they generate a Borg name for you somewhere? If you guys know of one, do let me know. Thanks.*

Excuse me for that sudden burst of "geekiness." I didn't know I had it in me. I think I've killed enough time tonight for me to start headin' home. I'd probably just entertain myself with the first season episodes of Sponge Bob Square Pants that I borrowed from a cousin. Wish I had some "chongkee" to go with it, though. *sigh*
